What We’re Looking For

We are offering an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated individual to join our Northern Home Counties commercial department, as a Senior Estimator. The purpose of the role will be to assist the Commercial Manager/Director in producing accurate take-offs and subsequent bills of quantities. The role will involve supporting and developing the commercial team including assistants and trainee’s.


Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities:

  • Administration/ Management of booking in tenders and logging into the shared tender list system in place, including saving contract information and processing of this information (printing and filing) prior measurement and pricing.

  • Making initial contact with clients to confirm accept or decline of tender.

  • Obtain quotes for all predicted requirements from sub-contractors and suppliers.

  • Assisting in producing take-offs and cost database for analysis by others (and progression of the same by themselves).

  • Calculate the cost of materials, transport, labour and plant hire.

  • Understanding the commercial aspects of measurement, bills and rate presentation/ ensuring consistency with current/ live schemes, understanding the confidentiality of (and sometimes the transparency).

  • Understand and clarify the client’s requirements and offer value engineering for discussion with the management team (and benefits of).

  • Undergo regular site visits to understand the process/ timings and sciences of estimating including the realization of the labour/ plant and material aspect of any given construction process.

  • Chasing/ following up previously submitted tenders and ensuring that the client has a fully comprehensive analysis including receipt of feedback on competitiveness of the tender/ bid.

  • Assessing and adhering to all risk assessments and health and safety requirements.

  • Keeping up to date with inflation and projected timescale costs.

  • Making visits to proposed construction sites.

  • Presenting bids to clients/answering questions.


Requirements:

  • Minimum 3 years’ experience within the industry.

  • General Knowledge of contractual terms within the construction industry.

  • Computer literate and proficient in Microsoft Excel.

  • Well organized with a strong work ethic.

  • Effective communicator both written and verbal.

  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.

  • Strong mathematical ability.

  • Skilled negotiator.

  • Ability to identify & resolve problems quickly and efficiently.

  • GCSE in both Maths and English.
