Reducing our carbon footprint is a huge focus at MV Kelly and we continue to implement green schemes around our Fleet, Offices, and construction activities.

Our Services

Car Fleet Electrification

In the past 12 months we have made great strides towards the full electrification of our car fleet, with over 90% of our cars now either fully electric or hybrid. Our ambition remains to have 100% electric car fleet within the next trading period.

Commercial Vehicle Fleet

We operate a fleet in excess of 700 Ford commercial vehicles, with a replacement cycle of a maximum of 2.5 years giving our entire fleet Euro 6.2 compliancy. We are awaiting the release of our suppliers' electric commercial vehicles next year.

Plant Fleet Renewable

Our industry-leading replacement cycle of 2.5 years means that our entire fleet of machines will meet Stage V emissions regulations.

Anti-idling Scheme

Our anti-idling (incentivised) scheme has recently been launched and we are making excellent strides towards our ambition of reducing our carbon footprint.

Solar Powered Site Set Ups

We continue to roll out our solar-powered Site Welfare units and this massive transitional investment will continue in our next trading year and beyond.

Solar Panels to Offices

We have completed our review of adding solar panels to our offices and will be rolling out several major installations.

Key Points & Action Plan

Electric charging points

We have continued to install electric charging points in new & existing offices. We have adapted our car policy to allow for various models of electrical vehicles with a higher mileage range to allow all job profiles to take advantage.

Paperless business

We continue to strive towards a paperless business. The use of an ERP System along with an Operational Management System continues to support the reduced number of paper documents not only in offices but also from site to office.

State-of-the-art Machinery

We invest in new state-of-the-art construction machinery and road vehicles, which enable the entire excavator and van fleet to benefit from the most fuel-efficient models available to the market.

Reduced Travel

Continued and increased investment in GPS excavator-based technologies has led to a marked reduction in travel by engineering and surveying staff.

Reduced Speeds

Van speeds are restricted to reduce fuel consumption. We constantly review plant and van utilisation in a bid to reduced idling.

Lighting & Heating

All offices are continuously maintained to ensure lighting and heating systems are in good order and economical. Lighting systems are sensor-based to allow usage only when required.

Quality Control

MV Kelly have expanded its investment in Quality Control which has had a direct benefit in reducing waste and increasing resource efficiency.

Recycled materials

MV Kelly's procurement policy is to use recycled materials wherever these can be locally sourced.

Sourcing local materials

MV Kelly will avoid the importation of bulk material to the site where alternatives are available on-site by using existing site-won material. We are committed to sourcing local materials through our supply chain network to reduce transportation distances.

Carbon offsetting

We have now begun the process of exploring carbon offsetting mechanisms and potentials. We have engaged consultants who are helping us develop a meaningful and practical ESG plan.

Air and Water Pollution

MV Kelly will continue to monitor & reduce air and water pollution

We have already made a start

We have been taking steps towards our goal... we set challenges across the company and the results are in!! Our efforts in carbon saving already equate to the good work of 27,000 trees! See more information below

Carbon Reduction Initiative

See ' What Are We Doing' below.

What are we doing?

01

Investing in the most modern plant and vehicles.

02

Over 90% of our cars are plug-in hybrid or electric. We are working on increasing our electric fleet by 2025.

03

Improving driver behaviour and fuel efficiency through our telematics systems.

04

Purchasing site welfare setups with solar-powered generators.

What can we do immediately?

01

Turn all plant and vans off when not in use.

02

Stop running machines for long periods of time to ‘warm them up’. there is no need with modern plant such as ours.

03

Use welfare provided before work and on break times (not vans or machines)

04

Do not turn off the auto start/stop function in vans. This feature is very unintrusive and easy to use.

05

Focus on completing work correctly to eliminate remedial works.

06

Increase vehicle sharing to reduce unnecessary journeys.

What does the future look like?

01

Increased use of solar energy and solar-supported power generation.

02

Electrification of plant and vans. This is in its early stages but more manufacturers are working on it.

03

Hydrogen engines: there are now several engine manufacturers working on hydrogen power units.

04

Synthetic fuel: captures carbon dioxide in its manufacturing process and produces around 15% of the emissions.

05

Improvements to HVO harvesting and its compatibility.
