Large scale Roads and Sewers project following on from a 278 scheme by another groundworker. The Volume of work is to be completed in a very short period of time making this job pretty intense, however a project that MV Kelly are resourced to manage from start to finish. The site slopes towards its entrance and the frontage of the site is to be lifted, with some Archaeological works to be undertaken. The contract is with Bloors Northampton and Bellway Northern Home Counties to key clients to the business. The outfall of the storm is via two lagoons on the frontage (to be used as balancing ponds); and the foul is pumped via a very large pumping station (the shaft being 4m diameter and 7m deep) up a narrow track to an outfall a few hundred metres away. A wide range of tasks are to be completed with complex infrastructure works and has been set up with a full time on site project team to deliver this development to the client safely, on time and within the budget.
A large scale Infrastructure Roads, Sewers and S278 scheme located off Farndon Road in Market Harborough, our first job with CJC Developments. The Consortium on the scheme is made up of David Wilson Homes East Midlands and Barratt Northampton who own parcels of the land which they will be independently developing. CJC are also developing their own parcels and various other builders may also invest in land on this site. MVK are looking to dominate this large scheme by continuing to maintain and deliver a high quality package remaining competitive on price. The on and off site work are spread over two years with a number of phases, and the rate of production must be project managed effectively for the Consortium who have a maximum monthly spend.
MVK are the services co-ordinator, with work that includes off site diversions for the S278 Works and new on site mains, again split across the two years / phases. MVK are also responsible for ensure applications are complete and in place, i.e. S104, S38 etc. The on site roads and sewers are pretty standard, with the storm falling into a new lagoon and the foul going via a pumping station and rising main. There are some 1050mm dia storm sewers leading up to the lagoon and a 3600mm x 2100mm foul box culvert forming part of the pumping station. The S278 works consist of a new roundabout on Phase 1, a new Toucan Crossing on Phase 2 and all associated road and footway alterations to suit. The rising main is 1000m long, 50% of which runs along Farndon Road and outfalls near Phase 2 of the S278 works. The new drainage on Phase 1 outfalls via a series of headwalls into a newly formed ditch course fronting the site.
MVK will be employing a landscaping contractor to carry out the feature landscaping within the adoptable works boundary, to help ensure that the client have the high level of presentation they pride themselves on.
The project is Phase 1 of the “Kings Reach Development” consisting of the Construction of approximately 850m of Spine Road & 1km of on site Roads including all associated drainage works, temporary pumping station/rising main, finishings, service main installation/co-ordination plus and additional 900m of off site footway/cycleway. These initial roads will accommodate the construction of approximately 500 units plus they will serve land parcels adjacent to the Eastern Relief Road (ERR). To facilitate Phase 1 of the housing (Taylor Wimpey & Martin Grant Homes approximately 200 units) MV Kelly provided a temporary access via a haul road linking on site Rd 2 & the first junction of the ERR to ensure that key dates of the programme were delivered on time to the client.
MV Kelly’s contract is with a consortium consisting of Taylor Wimpey (SM) & Martin Grant Homes, and being overseen by a project manager. MV Kelly were appointed as principal contractor with a full time project team consisting of site foremen, site manager, project manager, quantity surveyor, etc.
